Taiaba Akter Ima

Consultant Psychologist

Mental well-being is not just the absence of distress but the presence of self-awareness, resilience, and growth. Through evidence-based counseling and advocacy, I aim to create a space where healing and transformation thrive.

Biography

Taiaba Akter Ima is a passionate counselling psychologist whose journey into the field was shaped by a lifelong natural compassion and deep curiosity about people and their inner worlds. From childhood, Taiaba was known as an empathetic listener—someone friends and family turned to for comfort, understanding, and advice. Her early sensitivity to people’s emotions and the struggles around her sparked a strong belief in the importance of mental health, even before she fully understood it as a professional path. Determined to make a meaningful contribution to the world, Taiaba pursued her academic journey in psychology, completing her undergraduate and Master’s in Psychology, and second Master’s in Counselling Psychology at the University of Dhaka. Along the way, she sharpened her skills through research, training, and hands-on work in clinical, community, and academic settings. She has provided counselling, facilitated workshops, and worked to break the stigma around mental health in Bangladesh through roles at Mindwizz, Restart Psychological Consultancy, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and Dhaka University. Taiaba’s research on topics like internet addiction, depression, insomnia, and body image, as well as her advanced training in Person-Centered Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Non-Violent Communication, Gestalt Therapy, and more, reflect her dedication to continuous growth. Her journey reminds us that meaningful change often begins with the simple but powerful drive to listen, care, and help others heal. Taiaba’s story inspires others to follow their own compassionate instincts and use them to make a difference in the world of mental health.

Awards & Education

Master of Science degree in both Psychology and Counselling Psychology from the University of Dhaka, Taiaba combines rigorous academic training with practical experience in mental health support. Her career is marked by roles as a Psychological Counsellor at Restart Psychological Consultancy, an Assistant Counselling Psychologist at the University of Dhaka’s Student Counselling and Guidance Office, and an Intern Counselling Psychologist at Dhaka Medical College & Hospital.

Taiaba’s experience spans individual counseling sessions, mental health advocacy, and organizing workshops aimed at promoting mental health awareness. She has also contributed to research on critical topics, including internet addiction, depression, and body image issues. Fluent in Bengali, English, and elementary French, Taiaba’s technical skills include proficiency in SPSS and MS Office, complementing her professional capabilities.
